You Are Here...
Pretty Donna Darkwolf - The Contessa in the Lemon Garden
“Capri Lemon Garden” Tarantella by Dolce Vita
A photo-composition we did for Donna’s book that she never got to complete.
I had already written this - except that here, I have changed the tense
slightly to reflect the fact that Donna is no longer:
“The shadow of your perfume still fills this garden, and time won't wash
you from my skin
I breathe you out then breathe you in
Every whisper, every bloom brings back the shadow of your perfume
The music plays a tune familiar as a winging moon.
I close my eyes and you're right here in the sand that won't disappear
Time won't wash you from my skin - I breathe you out then breathe you
in.
Yet here I stay in soft perfume trapped in this velvet afternoon with
that distant melody in a slow dance with the moon.
You left the starlight in my eyes
So pour me another memory - clean and dry
On the rocks - just like my heart
While somehow from times when hearts were still
The light still hits it the same way - golden like those yesterdays it
holds -
I still wait for you, My Contessa -
Here in the Lemon Garden”.
Originally photographed on our townhouse patio. So that I could compose
it into this picture of some place on Italy's Amalfi coast where lemons
grow.
I wrapped a black scarf around Donna’s Spanish hat to change its shape’
– and the rest was what she already had. Just needed a newspaper as a prop
– for an effect that I wanted to do . . .
I wanted to do a “mise en abysme” technique where a portion of the image
is included IN the image.
As I have done here with the photo of Donna Darkwolf in the Paris Match
magazine cover – which itself is in a magazine cover.
A garden in Italy is not enough - let us go to another Planet where -
