"Marisol and The Sun and The Sea" - 1958 Isetta - 63 x 45 Cm.
“What a Difference a Day Made” – by Chantal Chamberland
Songwriter - María Grever
I met Marisol on a beach in Cape Town in 1995.
It was the wild pink duo-tone of her Isetta that caught my eye first.
I only saw her later as she got out of the car.
I figured she couldn't be more than about 24.
It so happened that she had this playing when she opened her car door
and stepped out, as I was passing.
So - being the gentleman that I am I paused to hold her door open, while
she got all of her beach things together.
and we strolled down to the beach and the sea together.
When she told me her name was Marisol, (she was Portuguese), I ventured:
“like ‘mar Y sol’, ‘sea AND sun’ in Spanish” - waving my arm out over the
vista of sea and sun on Cape Town's Noordhoek Beach.
I sang to her: “What a difference a day makes”, as I opened the bottle
of wine I had brought with me.
She was surprised.
Even more so – when I magically produced two wine glasses.
I explained that I ALWAYS carried TWO glasses – “Just in case. . . “
What a difference a day makes
Twenty four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain
My yesterday was blue, dear
Today I'm a part of you, dear
My lonely nights are through, dear
Since you said you were mine
What a difference a day makes
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy
Since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss
It's heaven when you find romance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is you

I introduced myself by commenting on her car.
She had gotten it from her father. Who had kept (and restored) it when
he got it from his deceased father’s garage.
Me - being me - one thing led to another - and we had a wild summer romance.
Marisol and Me.
She was only in Bracknell for 3 months.
But, she had as good moved in with me for the entire duration of her stay
- before having to return to Johannesburg - and university.
I was right about her being 24.
We celebrated her 24th birthday on 2 January, the day after my own birthday.
Two goats.
“I’m taking with me
My memories of We
High on the beach
With one of each
Down in the sand
Up in the dunes
A bottle of wine
What more do you need
“These things can't last
But they make a beautiful season
In the tall grass
She made a pass
All things have their time
And I’m doing fine
But I'm taking with We
My memories of we
“Nature goes on
Long after we’re gone
Here in this place
How many have loved
Life carries on
Long after we’re gone
Here by the sea
Our memories of we
I’m taking with me”
Marisol was a "celebrity". Most of the ladies in my life ARE!
However!! You want Celebrity!?
THIS! is a Celebrity!
A Natural-born killer. And not too bad looking. Just a FEW things you
gotta watch out for.
BUT! If you have that
“special job” that needs
doing - you can ALWAYS get it done by
