14 Years after my first divorce - and 5 years after my 2nd Divorce.

Imagine Camps Bay, Cape Town.
On a sunny 4th of October. 1998. (You will discover why I recall this date so well)

I went there to have lunch at “Tuscany” - an Italian restaurant - with a view of Camps Bay beach.

While I was parking - I had seen a beautiful, blonde, elegantly dressed woman walking on the beach with a wide-brimmed white hat.

I must have thought to myself: “Mm – Beautiful” - and dashed across the road through the traffic to get to my already reserved table.

I was already seated at my table, waiting for my drink when I saw the same blonde eleganza crossing the street.

When my drink arrived - I could see - beyond the waiter - the persistent vision of beauty being shown to a table.

I could not resist. . .

I got up from my table, sauntered over to her table and - introducing myself - invited her to have lunch with me.

”Why not? It is my birthday. I may as well have some fun”.

This is how I discovered Victoria.
French. A research botanist. Working for a French pharmaceutical company - that I will not mention here.

The world is full of designs, patterns, coincidences and cycles that appear to indicate the existence of some magical power. And you might forget that these things are the result of subtle natural process.

I remember the Fourth of October because it was during lunch that all of this began to come into sharp focus.

I have had countless girl friends - One of them became my first wife.

After a sad divorce and several more girlfriends (eight to be exact) - Another one of them became my second wife. (The eight girlfriends is not a boast – it is the NUMBER separating them that is important).

Coincidentally - both are blonde.

Wife No.1 birthday is on 19 September - A Libra.
Wife No.2 birthday is on 2O October - A Scorpio.
As POLAR OPPOSITE as two personalities can be.
Born FOUR years apart.
Lets call them “Libra” and “Scorpio”

The Day, midway between the two birthdays days is FOUR October.
(Interesting - today is the 4th October)
“Birthday, Hey. Let's have another drink”.
“Happy birthday, Victoria!”

She is as graceful in her movements as Libra, but her speech delivery is like Scorpio's -
Just with a French accent.
I begin to REALLY take notice of her appearance, physique.
Libra has large breasts - Scorpio has petite breasts. Victoria is in between.
Libra has a slightly voluptuous figure - Scorpio is lithe and wily. Victoria is in between.
Libra is on the short side - Scorpio is taller. Victoria is in between.
Libra's Lipstick tends toward Mauve. Scorpio tends toward brilliant red. Victoria is in between.
Libra has honey-blonde hair - Scorpio is platinum blonde. Victoria is in between.
Libra is reserved and a bit shy - Scorpio is brassy and sometime loud. Victoria is in between.
Libra's eyes are as green-blue as the ocean -Scorpio's eyes flash as impossibly brilliant blue as the sky.
Victoria is in between.

I am astonished.

When we are leaving, we cross the road to my car.
We are at a T-junction.
Across the road - there is a road joining this road.
If you were in a car in that road - waiting to turn left or right, the street name on the signpost in front of you is “Victoria Road”.

I point it out to Victoria, and we laugh as we cross the road.

All at once am I several stories high
Knowing I’m on the street where you live”.

I am dropping Victoria off at her place nearby – and collecting her later for dinner.
And while I drive I think of all the statistics I just mentioned.
Since Wife No.2, I have had seven girlfriends.
If Victoria becomes girlfriend number Eight – doe it mean that wife Number 3 Is on the horizon.
AaaH! Just a joke!

But apparently not.
For that IS what happened. Victoria became girlfriend Number Eight.
And then one day Victoria and I parted ways. She had decided she wanted to return home - which was in Rome

later, I met the Witch of my Life . . .
